Medical assessment process

If you have to undertake a medical assessment, this is what will happen:

  • You will be given an opportunity to agree with the other parties on the name of the approved medical specialist to undertake the assessment, otherwise we will choose an approved medical specialist.
  • We will let you know the date and time of your medical assessment and the name of the approved medical specialist.
  • We will organise and pay for an interpreter to attend the examination with you if you have requested this service in your Application to Resolve a Dispute.
  • The examination will normally take place at the doctor's practice.
  • You may take a companion with you, but they should be a relative or friend. Your companion is there to give you support and cannot give comments or evidence to the specialist or disrupt the assessment in any way.
  • The assessment will take around 1.5 hours.
  • You must attend an examination arranged by us.

For further information on the medical assessment, please refer to the WorkCover Medical Assessment Guidelines, and the WorkCover Guides for Evaluation Permanent Impairment

After the assessment

At the end of the examination, the approved medical specialist will issue a report called a Medical Assessment Certificate, which we will send to all parties.
